About Me

judy chance hope
Willits, CA, United States
There is something very gratifying about creative work. It is elemental and direct. Painting is one of the few jobs I’ve had that allows me to use my own decisions completely. I paint in oil and acrylic using a loose realism and a personal palette. My intention is to celebrate a subject or place I find meaningful while getting to know it intimately. Sometimes the painting finds a new direction as I work. I create focused detail where I want to draw the eye, leaving other areas underdeveloped and abstracted. This decision to control or let be is integral to my vision. I attempt to express a reverence for Nature in my work. Every viewer sees the painting from a uniquely personal place. I love that ever-changing interaction. Once the work is out of the studio, it takes on meaning beyond my own intentions. I hope you take something useful from my vision.
